1.Intro
The Backup Storage service provides storage space in Interspace Cloud for backups and archives. It can be used by applications that support the S3, SFTP or FTPS protocols, including specialized backup applications such as Veeam, NAKIVO and Acronis.
The service is optimized for writing large amounts of data and reading it only when a restore is needed. For this reason, the price per terabyte is much lower than for storage used for constant file access, such as server disks.
A storage account can be divided into multiple Buckets (accessed over S3) and Shared Folders (accessed over SFTP/FTPS), resulting in significant space savings. Multiple users and automated jobs can use the same Buckets or Shared Folders, each with its own access level.
2.Advantages of Backup Storage from Interspace
2.1.Compatible with Multiple Applications
S3-compatible backup applications, such as Veeam and NAKIVO, connect directly to S3 Buckets. NAS devices, scripts and other backup applications connect to Shared Folders over SFTP/FTPS.
Files can also be browsed and managed with popular file transfer applications, such as FileZilla, WinSCP and Cyberduck. Different applications can be used in the same account at the same time.
2.2.Shared Folders and S3 Buckets
A Shared Folder is a separate storage location used for one organisation, team or project. Shared Folders are accessed over SFTP or FTPS. They can be shared with multiple users, and each user can have
Write or
Read Only access. Users see only the Shared Folders assigned to them.
An S3 Bucket is a separate object storage location for backup applications that use the S3 protocol. Applications connect to an S3 Bucket with access keys. Each S3 Bucket can also be accessed read-only over SFTP/FTPS. This allows backups to be browsed and downloaded with familiar file transfer applications.
All Shared Folders and S3 Buckets share the total storage space of the plan, which allows significant space savings. Managed service providers do not need to order separate storage for each customer.
